About
In late 2014, Adam and Ross created a list of 52 films for their friend Vinh. The list was a collection of iconic movies he had never seen before. After completing the final list, the three of them decided to watch the movies together every Sunday night for a year. Friends eventually started showing up each week, often with food related to the movie (e.g. cannolis for The Godfather), sparking the beginning of what we called Sunday Night Cinema (RIP).
This website is a memento and reference document for that period of time as “the list” comes up in conversation with surprising frequency. If you’re looking for movie recommendation, you really can’t go wrong with anything from the list below.
The Rules
- Only films Vinh had never seen before
- Maximum of two movie from a single director
- No films before 1940 or after 2004 (i.e. “new” movies as of 2014)
- Selection criteria is weighted toward cultural significance over artistic merit
- Thematic diversity from week to week was encouraged
- Movies would be watched chronologically
